Questions and answers

Plain answers about posting, messaging, meeting up, and parking. Not here? Ask the site owner.

Posting

Does it cost anything?

No. Posting and browsing are free. There are no ads, no accounts, and no tracking cookies.

How long until my listing shows up?

A person reads every listing before it appears. The target is within 2 days, and often it is the same day. Your manage page shows “Pending review” until then. Nothing is emailed, so check the page.

Why was my listing not approved?

Usually it listed something on the prohibited list, looked like spam or a scam, or was parking the poster could not show permission to rent. Your manage page says “Not approved”. You can post a new listing that follows the rules.

Can I edit my listing?

You can change the price, mark it sold, renew it, or remove it from your manage page. To change the title, photos, or description, remove it and post a new one.

How many photos can I add?

Up to six. They are resized in your browser, and location data is removed before they leave your phone or computer.

How long does a listing stay up?

30 days after approval. Renew it from your manage page whenever you want. Nothing is emailed when it is about to expire, so check back if you still have the item.

Messages and replies

How do buyers contact me?

Through the “Message seller” button. You see their note on your private manage page. Your email and phone are not shown on the listing unless you choose the optional “show my contact” setting.

I posted and nobody messaged me. Why?

The board is small and new, and nobody gets an email when a message arrives, so things move slowly. A clear title, a photo, a fair price, and specific pickup times help. You can lower the price from your manage page.

I messaged a seller and nobody answered.

Sellers are not emailed when you write, so a reply can take a day or more. If nothing comes after a few days, try another listing. We can’t chase sellers for you.

Why was a message held?

Messages with links or prohibited words are held for the site owner to read before the seller sees them. This stops most scam messages.

Your manage link

What is the manage link?

A private web address you get when you post. Anyone with it can manage your listing, so don’t share it. It is also saved in the browser you posted from.

I lost my manage link.

If you set a recovery code when you posted, open the manage page, enter your listing reference and the code, and you get a new link. The old link stops working. If you did not set a code, send a removal request with the listing link.

What is the listing reference?

The short code shown on the “in the pile” screen after you post, like k3m9x2pq. It is also the last part of your listing’s web address.

Meeting and paying

How do I get paid?

In person, when the buyer has seen the item. Cash is simplest. We never handle money. Don’t ship items, accept checks, or take a payment before you meet.

Where should we meet?

A busy, lit public place in daylight, or a porch or curb pickup you set up carefully. See the meetup and handoff guide for ideas.

What about big furniture?

Say it is large in the listing, give measurements, and plan for a truck and a second person. Keep the handoff at the door or curb.

What is move-out mode?

A switch for people leaving town. Those listings show a pickup-by date and sort soonest first. Use it to find things that need to go this week, or to flag yours.

Parking

Who can list parking?

Only owners, or people with written permission from the owner. No city streets, yellow curbs, fire lanes, or somebody else’s driveway. Each parking listing needs the date and time.

Is the address public?

No. Don’t post the street address. Give it to the driver after you have talked. Confirm the date, time, and where to park in writing.

Is parking guaranteed?

No. We don’t verify permission, hold money, or insure anything. Arrangements are between the owner and the driver. This is not legal advice.

Trust and privacy

Who reads the listings?

The site owner, by hand. It is a read for prohibited items, spam, and unsafe parking. It is not an inspection or an endorsement.

Is this connected to the university?

No. It is independent and not affiliated with any university, school, or athletic program.

What do you do with my email or phone?

It is private. The site owner can see it for moderation. Buyers never see it unless you opt in. Read the privacy page in plain English.

How do I report a problem or reach the site owner?

Use the report form. It also works for questions and bugs. There is no public email address.
